SHOOT
We went and shot our footage today at Dan’s cousins flat wooo. We managed to get all the footage we needed quite quickly and we got lots of additional footage to just in case anything wasn’t suitable. We are aiming to possibly show this to the Bamboo-A people we added a bit of extra footage onto the beginning to create more of a story. This will be cut out of our final submission because it would make the shot too long.

Shoe split alteration
Now that the deadline seems to be looming ever closer we have decided that we are no longer going to split the trainer into 6 as it is only going to prove too difficult. We have decided that it would be far simpler to just have the trainer split into four. The SOLE, FRONT SECTION, HEEL and LACES. That way we can get the best possible movement out of each of the pieces.

Location
We have finally decided on a location for our shoot, Dan’s cousin was nice enough to agree to let us use his flat which seemed like the perfect setting for the shot. Seeing as we want to possibly show this to the Bamboo-A people we wanted to make sure we got a location that reflected the target market. We imagined a bachelor pad sort of setting as we felt this reflected the potential customer base best. This place seemed like the perfect example with plenty of interesting nooks and crannies for the shoe parts to appear from. The plan is to go and film the scenes in the second week of the easter holidays so we give ourselves the whole of the second half of the semester to get on with the modeling and compositing.

Roles
We decided the best way to share the workload would be to have each person stick to specific tasks. Rather than having us all model and all composite and risk having the shot look different throughout. It was decided that because of previous projects and his damn decent skills Karl would do the modelling and animating, Dan would be doing the editing because of his previous experience on his ND course and I would be doing the compositing. I don’t really have a huge wealth of experience with compositing but for the D&AD competition I had a go and it wasn’t as hard as i expected it to be.

Shoe Split
A quick mock up of the seperation we want. We decided to go for these 6 parts because they seemed like the natural seperations of the shoe. Now that we have decided on the seperation Karl can begin to model up the trainer parts to make sure we get a head start for the second part of the semester.

Sweeney Test
After a quick converse on MSN and due to my lack of a video camera Dan went off and quickly created this. If we were to use this style we could have it running as one continuous shot instead of having to cut it up. We would need to use tracking software like pfHoe alongside Cinema 4d if we were to use this shooting style.

Between Shot Style
Double Click to play and stop.
The time element was going to prove difficult for us seeing as we wanted to have the separate parts of the trainer at various points in the room. After seeing Sweeney Todd I really liked the way they shot the scene above. The way the footage slows down considerably when it arrives at something interesting then speeds back up for the in-between bits. It would help solve the time element issues for us leaving more time for the effects shot.

Trainer Choice Take 2
We had hoped to use the Jordan Spizikes but soon realised when it came to the modeling the pictures we found on the net wouldn’t be good enough for referencing. We decided that it would be best if we used a trainer we had access to making the job of modeling easier. We decided on the Bamboo-A Bulldog trainer because Dan had easy access to a pair as he works part time at the company. Plus as you can see it has distinct sections that we can break it apart into.

Bulldog Confusion
When Dan was suggesting using the Bulldog trainers i got slightly confused and thought he was talking about making the trainer transform from a bulldog back to a trainer. Somehow I started to picture how we could achieve this and was really getting into the whole idea. Then I realised that Dan was in fact talking about the trainer which was called Bulldog. It got me thinking about perhaps using a play on the word bulldog giving the shot more of a purpose rather than it just being a transforming trainer.

I’ve had a wiicked idea
I was thinking about how it was really quite boring to have to just hold the wii remote and that there had to be a more interesting way to have people use it. It hit suddenly hit me what if i were to mount it in or on a hat meaning that people would have to move their whole body while walking on the pads in order to get the sketch to work. I was thinking about the right type of hat and was struggling to think of one it could easily be mounted in or onto when i came across an old cowboy hat i had. The dent in the top is perfect for the wii remote to sit because it means it can still sit on the persons head properly. I would obviously need to attach it in someway but I think somethign like strips of elastic would work quite well.
