Absence
Right it has seriously been far too long since I have felt in anyway creative which is appalling I know, apologies going out to Captain who has already scolded me for it. However my creativity was re-ignited after my favourite net obsession of Stumbling where I found a whole host of awesome Photoshop tutorials that I found myself dying to try out. So here is the finished result.

Stop Motion Wall Painting
MUTO a wall-painted animation by BLU from blu on Vimeo.
I just found this video on a blog and OMG was blown away. The time, effort and skill that must have gone into this piece is unbelievable. I can’t quite get over how he managed to do it and get away with grafitting so many walls. It’s quite long but completely worth it.

Neave
OK this guy is my new idol ( well at least until i stumble onto another extraordinarily cool site) his site is absolutely amazing. The experiments he has been achieving in flash are unbelievable the one that is pictured above is a simple line animation that is affected by the mouse movements and gradually changes hue. Another one of his experiments uses your computers built in microphone to pick up sounds and then uses those sounds to power an animation of simple objects. It is really similar to what the d.v.d guys i saw in Germany were doing with Processing. The site is definitely worth checking out!!!

FCP fun
In order to demonstrate SFX to us Andy made us venture out to the sunny realms of …. just outside Sainsburys!! Armed with a camera and a tripod we set about to get the footage of the year by attempting to recreate the age old SFX shot of someone walking behind a lamppost and another person emerging the other side. This one was probably the most effective of the lot we took. I can just picture with the right effects in After Effects or Cinema 4d this could be a pretty effective shot. When I get some time I’m going to attempt this and see what i can come up with.

Nobody Here
At first look I thought O.K this is a bit of a weird e-card there isn’t really anything happening then suddenly this hair starts sprouting from the nose and it becomes obvious your supposed to pluck it. The next bit though was a delightful shock once plucked the hair then curls up to form on of the words listed on the right. The other clever thing is the word will land in which ever direction you tweezed the hair out at. The sound effects also added a bit more humor to the piece as well.

CN tower timelapse
Thanks again to the Captain for this one and also yet again another really simplistic concept. It’s also a completely achievable concept and one i think i might have a go at. I think what makes this one work so well though is the contrast of the sky against the city skyline. The city skyline produces such a wide variety of differences that it really helps this piece I can’t help but feel my back garden won’t have quite the same impact!

Circular Life
This one was a Captain find and a damn good find at that, although i can’t help but feel it was perhaps a year too late. The whole idea kinda screams virtual space at me but oh well its amazing to look at whether its for research or not. The whole concept is really simple yet must have taken forever to compile with the amount of shots they had they would have had to take a picture every 24 minutes but thank god they did because it just makes it all the more amazing. Looking at all these websites I’m realising that simple is a key factor for most of them and it’s something i really need to keep in mind because i have a habit for thinking too big for my time constraints then getting frustrated with myself when i don’t produce exactly what i wanted.

I have spread my love of the stumble to the captain and we have been having an awesome time discovering some interesting/weird/cool/fantastic/ROFL sites/picture/videos/animations (the list could go on and on) so be prepared to be bombarded with double the amount of stumbles mwhahahahaha
PS be sure to go check out Captains Chants site which has some uber cool GEEK drawings and a multitude of other great stuff

GEEK
While perusing through the sites in the learning resources section of the Multimedia Applications section i came across this definition on one of the sites. While the site didn’t appeal to me all that much this piece of text grabbed my attention : -
“Geek” doesn’t just mean “computer nerd”. To be a geek about something is to love it unconditionally – to have it crawl into that special place in your mind, where it takes up residence, crowding all the normal things out.
I thought that it summed up the term geek so perfectly and it reminded me of a certain someone not naming any name *cough cough* CAPATAIN *cough* but i think we can all relate to this at some points in our lives we all tend to obsess over something or someone at one point or another!!
