Processing

It’s only in the last week or so that i have really started to play with it but i am loving it so much. Before I was quite set on what i wanted to create but now I’m not so sure because the possibilities with processing are so great. I am slowly working my way through “Processing A Programming Handbook for Visual Designers and Artists” at the moment go to amazon to buy it cause it is so fantastic!!! At the moment i am finding it a little bit difficult still but the further i get the more I’m understanding. I’m hoping to set up a new blog or add a processing section to my site to show my experimentation.

Neal Stephenson

Well it’s a long time coming I kept meaning to blog it but I am soooo loving Neal Stephenson. I finished The Diamond age a while ago but it absolutely blew my mind I haven’t been that challenged by a book in a long time. It was tough going to start with and i was tempted to give up a few times but I kept at it and was so glad that I did. The whole story-line was just … WOW, I don’t really know how else to describe it the way he thinks is just so much deeper than most and his imagination is so out there it’s in it’s own world. The only thing I was slightly disappointed with was the ending which was a little bit rushed but Mark assured me that this was a tradition of his. I think you have to read quite regularly and be enthusiastic about it otherwise this book will just go over your head. I have already gone out and bought Quicksilver : Part 1 of his Baroque Cycle however it is on hold until i have re-read Northern Lights in preparation for the film coming out in the beginning of December.

Labyrinth

While chatting with Nick today I was talking through my idea of creating an interactive game of sorts and the idea of using lots of different switches. Mark had already said that I didn’t have to limit myself to floor switches i could use all sorts of different types like light switches or using movement to activate things. Nick threw up the idea of labyrinths and my mind starting wandering instantly. Maybe not necessarily creating a proper labyrinth but maybe creating a kind of walk through where there are sensors which react to movement

Double Project idea

Picture 1.png

I was wracking my brains trying to think of a simplistic game idea that I could try to create for my Double Project when I remembered this scene from the 2003 film Paycheck. Ben Affleck’s character is showing off his reaction skills by hitting which ever section has lit up. It got me thinking that this could be simplified into a manageable game idea. The idea of having a booth with a screen on the back wall and on the floor and surrounding walls have switches of various colours and designs. When the person enters the wall it activates a programme which brings a picture onto the screen that corresponds with one of the switches in the booth. The idea would be to find as many switched as you could in the fastest time with the time progressively decreasing the longer you participated.
